Hello dear DTTS community,
It’s been a minute!
We’ve had a few new subscribers join us over the last couple of months. A very warm welcome to you all, and thank you so much for being here.
I hope you’ve had a chance to listen in to the first couple episodes of Season 9, available now wherever you listen to podcasts. We kicked off the season with Anna Zivarts, who gave us a vision of what transportation could look like if we didn’t center it around cars. In episode 2, we take you to Camp MWABA for an accessible outdoor adventure with the Metro Washington Association of Blind Athletes.
There’s lots more to come, so be sure to subscribe and spread the word.
We have a lot to celebrate in the DTTS community this month! Here’s a round-up of some of the amazing things that past guests and other members of the podcast fam have been up to.
Alice Wong is now a MacArthur Genius (though we didn’t really need MacArthur to tell us she’s a genius).
Day Al-Mohamed’s anticipated PBS series, Renegades, uplifting historical figures with disabilities, has kicked off. I highly recommend that everyone check it out immediately. It’s actually a DTTS alumni collab, with Lachi as the host.
Unseen is now an immersive podcast through PRX. You can now listen to Pedro’s story as a four-part audio series. Huge congrats to team Unseen!
Our very own producer, Ilana Nevins, created this powerful and raw account of her experience navigating an eating disorder that transformed her relationship with her father.
And, just for fun, because October 15 is White Cane Awareness Day, here’s a throwback to a piece that I wrote for Vox in 2020 about my own relationship with the white cane. As you’ll see, it was a turbulent ride from shame to love.
Do you have news to share? A new project or initiative you’re excited about? Please do drop us a line so we can celebrate you!
Thanks for reading our newsletter this month. We’ll be back in your inboxes next month with more news from the podcast and the disability community
In solidarity,
Qudsiya
